Our Fleet Safety Standards: How We Protect Drivers and Cargo

Safety isn’t a slogan we put on the side of a truck. It’s the standard everything else at Freightage INC gets measured against, from how we hire drivers to how we maintain equipment to how we plan routes. Here’s a look at what that actually looks like day to day.

It starts before a driver ever gets behind the wheel

Every driver who joins our fleet goes through a thorough vetting process: motor vehicle record checks, drug and alcohol screening through the FMCSA Clearinghouse, and a review of driving history that goes well beyond the legal minimum. We’d rather take the time to get this right than rush someone onto the road who isn’t ready for it.

Equipment maintenance, on a schedule, not a guess

Preventable accidents are often the result of preventable mechanical failures. That’s why our fleet runs on a strict, calendar-based maintenance schedule, not a reactive one. Brakes, tires, lights, and engine diagnostics are checked on a fixed cycle, and any issue gets resolved before a truck goes back on the road, not after.

We also believe maintenance works best when it’s a shared responsibility, not just something handled in the shop. Drivers who keep their equipment well maintained are rewarded for it, and on the flip side, neglect comes with a small penalty. It’s a simple system, but it keeps everyone invested in the same outcome: trucks that are safe, reliable, and ready for the road.

Technology that backs up good judgment

We use electronic logging devices to keep hours-of-service compliance accurate and verifiable, and we rely on dash cams and telematics to give us real visibility into how trucks are performing on the road. This isn’t about watching over our drivers’ shoulders, it’s about giving everyone, drivers included, better information and better protection if something does go wrong.

Why this matters beyond compliance

None of this is just about passing a DOT audit, though we take that seriously too. It’s about the fact that every load we haul represents a driver’s life, a customer’s freight, and the trust of everyone sharing the road with us. Strong safety standards are how we keep growing without compromising on what got us here in the first place.

As Freightage INC continues to expand, this is one part of the business that won’t change. If anything, growth means we hold these standards even tighter, because more trucks on the road means more responsibility, not less.
